The Endless Revolution

by Jacqueline Skalski-Fouts

In 8 minutes and 46 seconds George Floyd, an innocent Black man, was brutality killed by police in Minneapolis after buying cigarettes with counterfeit money. The killing sparked a revolution. On June 6, 2020 Black Lives Matter protests peaked around the United States, with more than half a million people joining in both peaceful and sometimes violent protests, outraged by the continuing threat the American policing force.

In Washington DC, protests gathered for one of DC’s largest peaceful Black Lives Matter protests. Individuals carrying microphones or shouting into cupped hands voiced their fears, their hopes, their demands for a solution to America’s racism problem.

In a display of humanity, fellow protests embrace, others dance. One young man skateboards at a park down the street from the capitol building, where National Guard trucks stall along the street.

Jacqueline Skalski-Fouts is a student photographer from Virginia studying global politics and seeking to capture humanity through photojournalism.
